Meal or No Meal 2010

The Fifth Annual Meal or No Meal Community Awareness Dinner will be held Nov. 5, 2010, at St. Mary's Pittenger Center in Stuart.

The annual Meal or No Meal event has a twofold purpose: To raise needed funds for House of Hope service programs and to raise the public’s awareness of the substantial amount of poverty that exists in Martin County.

The event is unique because dinner is prepared and served by the same volunteers who make the free meals served by local churches every week throughout Martin County. Meal or No Meal draws more than 230 community leaders and generates attention of people throughout the county.

The meals are the same menu as someone might receive at a community meal kitchen -- warm, nutritious fare that include pork roast, pasta, vegetables, potatoes, etc.

A platter of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches is placed on each table as a reminder that dinner might be such a sandwich -- or less -- without support for such places as House of Hope and its partners.

The event netted $40,012 for the agency -- about $3,000 more than the goal. The agency provides food, clothing, case management and emergency financial assistance to thousands of Martin County residents in need.
