Record attendance,
generous guests and a significant milestone
added glitter to House of Hope’s annual fashion
show, held March 5 at Mariner Sands Country
Club.
House of Hope’s 10th Annual
Fashion Show, Luncheon and Auction mixed fun,
fashion and philanthropy. Adding sparkle to this
year’s event was the milestone of House of Hopes
25th anniversary – making the event a “Silver
Celebration.”
During the luncheon event,
volunteers delighted the crowd by modeling
fantastic designer fashions donated to House of
Hope’s “Resale Shoppes.” Featured fashions were
sold at bargain prices, but buyers paid above
and beyond the sales tag in order to support
House of Hope programs to provide food,
clothing, case management and emergency
financial assistance to people in need.
Also helping House of
Hope’s proceeds was the 50/50 raffle winner,
Nancy Clark, owner of Renova Day Spa & Salon.
Already generous with gifts to fashion show
attendees and a spa package in the silent
auction, Ms. Clark turned her winnings of about
$900 back over to House of Hope.
Overall, the event has
raised nearly $30,000, with contributions still
coming in the mail from attendees.
Live and silent auctions
featured items designed to pamper attendees. The
highlight was a 5-day/4-night stay at a The
Grenadian grand resort in the Caribbean island
of Grenada, donated by the Grenada Board of
Tourism in conjunction with The Grenadian by Rex
Resorts.
The emcee was Sue McVeigh
of Smith Barney. Mariner Sands residents Terry
and BJ Carder were the hosts. Terry Carder is a
House of Hope board member, and BJ Carder
coordinated the models, fashions and commentary.
During the fashion show, BJ
Carder announced that House of Hope “Resale
Shoppes” will continue to feature upscale
fashions. She encourage the crowd to check out
House of Hope’s four locations – Stuart, Hobe
Sound, Indiantown and Jensen Beach – for rare
finds at bargain prices. Attendees were also
reminded to keep House of Hope in mind when
donating fine clothing and other household
items.
Sponsors and underwriters
of the event included Bobbie Trimble, Senior
Home Companions, FPL, KVAR America, Renova Day
Spa & Salon, Jim & Elaine Matts, and Judy
Rosenthal.
