House of Hope stands out in Indiantown

PRESS RELEASE DATE: AUG. 10, 2009

House of Hope’s Indiantown branch has a new look and new things in store every week.

The agency wanted to help branch manager Malherbe Fremont spread the word to Indiantown residents about the services available at House of Hope.  As part of that effort, new signs were put on the windows of the agency at 15516 Osceola Street, announcing the Food Pantry, Clothes Closet and Emergency Financial Assistance programs as well as the resale store.

Fremont also has brochures available in English and Spanish (and soon, Creole) to describe House of Hope’s services and store.

In the resale store, customers can find items such as gently used clothing, household items, appliances, furniture, books and tapes. Sales and donations support House of Hope programs that help people in need.

House of Hope’s three assistance programs are as follows:

  • The Food Pantry: House of Hope is the leading source of food for the hungry in Martin County.  With answers to a few simple questions, people can receive a supply of nutritionally balanced groceries. For example, a family of four will usually be given about 25 pounds of staples -- enough to sustain them for a few days.

  • The Clothes Closet:  This program provides clothing, household necessities, furniture and appliances for free or at greatly reduced cost to people who would otherwise go without.

  • Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA): This program provides temporary financial assistance to people, such as paying a housing, utility or medical bill. Typically, EFA clients are low-wage workers, low fixed-income seniors, single parents and those facing a sudden life crisis (divorce, abandonment, abuse, death in the family, major medical issue, etc.).

In July, House of Hope helped 13 Indiantown families with nearly $1,900 in Emergency Financial Assistance, helping people stay in their homes and/or keep their electricity on.

House of Hope is located at 15516 Osceola Street – between Madison and Adams streets, just around the corner from the Elisabeth Lahti-Indiantown library.  The branch hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The phone number for the branch is (772) 597-6397.

If you would like to donate any furniture, appliances or large household items, you can arrange for a free pickup by calling the main Stuart office at (772) 286-4673.
