Mariner Sands reaches out with
$40,000 to House of Hope
PRESS RELEASE DATE: APRIL 8, 2009
House of Hope recently received a gift of
$40,000, courtesy of the annual Operation
Outreach conducted by Mariner Sands Chapel.
To raise the funds, scores of Mariner Sands
Country Club residents participated in golf,
tennis and croquet matches, and held a dinner
with prizes and a raffle.
Operation Outreach began
more than 20 years ago as a way for residents to
look beyond Mariner Sands into the Stuart
community and help people who are less
fortunate. Since then
Outreach supporters have provided approximately
$1.5 million to local charities, including House
of Hope, the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Holy
Cross Service Center in Indiantown, and
Samaritan Home for Boys.
“Thousands of our Martin County neighbors live
on poverty wages,” said Chuck Dorsey, Operation
Outreach chairman. “We at Mariner Sands are
truly blessed and have this Outreach opportunity
to reach out to those in need by helping
organizations that depend on us to help others.”
Mariner Sands is a year-round supporter of House
of Hope, and its residents are involved in many
ways.
-
At Christmas 2008,
residents adopted 45 families, providing
gifts, bikes and grocery cards. The
gift-giving is an annual event for Mariner
Sands, making for a heart-warming tradition
for the community and House of Hope.
-
At Easter, Mariner
Sands donates about $8,000 for House of Hope
to purchase holiday meals for families in
need.
-
House of Hope recently
held its annual Fashion Show and Luncheon at
the Mariner Sands clubhouse. At least 40 of
the 230 guests at the March 5 event were
Mariner Sands residents, along with several
volunteer models who displayed “upscale
resale” fashions. The event raised nearly
$30,000 to help House of Hope clients.
-
The Fashion Show was
hosted by Mariner Sands residents Terry & BJ
Carder. Terry is a House of Hope board
member, and BJ coordinated the fashions and
provided commentary for the Fashion Show.
Another Mariner Sands resident, Barrett
Jones, also is a House of Hope board member.
Since its founding in 1984,
House of Hope has provided basic human needs for
people struggling through difficult times. The
agency provides food, clothing, case management
and emergency financial assistance to people who
work hard but find themselves unable to make
ends meet.
Today, House of Hope
operates four locations -- Stuart, Hobe Sound,
Indiantown and Jensen Beach -- each with a
resale shoppe and service center for clients.
The stores provide about one-third of the
agency’s cash income, and 95 percent of all
donations are dedicated to helping clients.
