Curves celebrates member's 90th birthday with
gifts to House of Hope
PRESS RELEASE DATE: MARCH 15, 2010
The Curves fitness center in Port Salerno is
celebrating a member’s 90th birthday by giving
gifts to House of Hope.
Ginnie Bacon will turn 90 on April 13. To mark
the milestone, her fellow Curves members are
being invited to bring in household items that
will be donated to House of Hope.
“I don’t need any gifts for myself, but I
thought it was a great idea because there are so
many people who are in need,” Ginnie said.
House of Hope operates resale stores at its four
locations in Martin County. The stores double as
the agency’s “Clothes Closet,” a program that
provides clothing and household necessities to
people who would otherwise go without. Whether
given away or sold, all donated items benefit
Martin County children, working adults and
senior citizens in need.
Marsha Zack, the owner of Curves at 3334 SE
Salerno Road, is organizing the 90th birthday
celebration for Ginnie, who plays golf in
addition to the up-tempo 30-minute workouts at
Curves several times a week.
Curves member Doris Mathias, who is a House of
Hope volunteer, came up with the gift-giving
idea, but it was a natural fit because of
Curves’ history of giving to House of Hope.
Nationally, Curves conducts a food drive
throughout March to benefit local food pantries.
The Port Salerno location not only is
participating in the drive this month, but
Marsha also is extending the drive through
April. “I encourage my seasonal members to clean
out their cabinets and bring in food for House
of Hope before they return north,” Marsha said,
explaining the extension of the food drive.
