House of Hope saluted an essential group of people with a Volunteer
Appreciation Breakfast in the heart of National
Volunteer Week.
“We could not operate House of Hope without you,” Patrick Slattery,
executive director of House of Hope told the 70
volunteers assembled April 21 at the Knights of
Columbus in Stuart. “Without you, House of
Hope could not carry out its mission to help those less fortunate.”
During 2009 at House of Hope, 146 volunteers recorded 14,906 total hours
of service. The value of this volunteer service
equals $301,847, according to the estimate of
the value of volunteer time calculated by The
Independent Sector.
Of these volunteers, about 120 are “regulars,” serving House of Hope
weekly at one of its four branches – Stuart,
Hobe Sound, Indiantown or Jensen Beach. They
work in the food pantries, the resale stores, on
the board of directors or helping House of Hope
clients.
Others are volunteers who serve periodically – such as the one-day Stamp
Out Hunger Food Drive or in preparations for a
special event such as House of Hope’s golf
tournament, fashion show or “Meal or No Meal”
Community Awareness Dinner.
House of Hope provides food, clothing, financial assistance and
life-changing case management services to Martin
County residents in need – including families
with children, senior citizens and people going
through sudden life crises.
