Yacht & Country Club generous
to House of Hope
PRESS RELEASE DATE: DEC> 21, 2010
The Yacht & Country Club of
Stuart has wrapped up a season of giving that
raised food and funds to help clients of House
of Hope.
Residents Melinda Twichell
and Ginny Starkel held a wine and appetizer
party on Dec. 6, and encouraged their guests to
bring nonperishable food to be donated to House
of Hope. The gathering of about 125-150 women of
the Yacht & Country Club brought in more than a
ton of food – 2,025 pounds. That amounts to more
than 1,500 meals to nourish and bring joy to
families over the holidays.
The Ladies of the Yacht &
Country Club also held their annual Christmas
Charity Card Party on Dec. 3, raising donations
of $1,040 for House of Hope.
In addition to this
outpouring of Christmas spirit, residents at the
Yacht & Country Club support House of Hope
year-round in many other ways:
The Ladies 9 Hole Golf
Association collects donations of food
throughout the year from a box placed in the
clubhouse. This method delivered more than 530
pounds of food this year.
Many residents regularly
volunteer in the House of Hope food pantry and
resale store, contributing thousands of hours of
service and seeing first-hand the crises people
face in their lives and the good work that the
agency does in the community.
Individually, residents
have donated more than $10,000 to House of Hope
this past year through donations and
participation in House of Hope events.
House of Hope is a
nonprofit agency that provides food, clothing,
case management and emergency financial
assistance to Martin County people in need. The
agency is Martin County’s largest provider of
food to the hungry, and serves as a safety net
for hundreds of families, working people and
senior citizens who are struggling through hard
times.
