Press releases

House of Hope golf tourney
takes a swing at hunger

PRESS RELEASE DATE: APRIL 7, 2011

Read more about the Tournament of Hope

Participants in House of Hope’s 16th Annual Tournament of Hope on April 29 have the opportunity to play a premier golf course, a chance to win a set of elite golf clubs, and the guarantee of helping to ensure that thousands of children won’t go hungry.

House of Hope is seeking players and sponsors for its 16th Annual Tournament of Hope, which returns this year to Piper’s Landing Yacht & Country Club on April 29.

The cost of the event is $600 per foursome or $175 per player, with many sponsorship and underwriting opportunities available. To put that in human terms for House of Hope: $600 provides the equivalent of about 2,400 meals; a $100 tee sign sponsorship would provide 400 meals.

Here’s the lineup for this year’s tourney:

• 11:30 a.m. – Registration and buffet lunch.
• 1:15 p.m. – Shotgun start (four-person modified scramble).
• After play – Awards reception with heavy hors d'oeuvres.
• The tourney also features a silent auction, hole-in-one prizes and caps for every player, sponsored by Senior Home Companions.
• A drawing for a set of TaylorMade golf clubs like the ones Greg Norman plays, in a bag autographed by The Shark himself. Chances are $20 each, or six for $100.

Marty Carmody is the chairman of the Tournament of Hope committee, which also includes Kathy Carmody, Charlie D'Agata, Frank Doyle, Jeff Kaplan, Brad Larsen and Jim Matts.

Jim and Elaine Matts are the presenting sponsors for the event, at a level that is the equivalent of 20,000 meals.

The demand for House of Hope assistance — food, clothing, financial help, and life-changing case management services — continues to escalate. The goal for the Tournament of Hope is to raise $50,000 to sustain vital services over the long summer months when the demand for help dramatically increases as seasonal positions wind down, unemployment rolls rise, and people – particularly children – suffer.
