Piper's Landing shares gifts
with House of Hope families

PRESS RELEASE DATE: DECEMBER 6, 2011

The Piper’s Landing Women’s Golf Association recently concluded its annual Holiday Sharing drive, and the results will go a long way toward helping House of Hope families this Christmas.

Two leaders of the association, Lorraine Cardarelli and Doris Medwin, set up a festive Thanksgiving tree in the Piper’s Landing clubhouse to prompt their fellow members to give. The tree was decorated with tags that members could fill out to provide a donation to House of Hope.

The little tree turned out to be a big success, as the drive – which lasted throughout November – raised $2,130. That money will be used by House of Hope to purchase gift cards for selected client families so they can shop for food, toys, clothing or household items this holiday season.

The Piper’s Landing Yacht & Country Club, in Palm City, is a year-round supporter of House of Hope:

  • Throughout the year, boxes are set up in the locker rooms to collect donations of food. The collection this year added up to more than 700 pounds of food, or the equivalent of about 550 meals.

  • House of Hope board member Elaine Matts is a Piper’s Landing resident and is a leader of the agency’s Hearts for Hope Luncheon. She and her husband, Jim, also were the presenting sponsors of this past year’s Golf Tournament of Hope, which was hosted at Piper’s Landing.

  • Many other residents are regular volunteers, event committee members and generous donors.

House of Hope is a nonprofit agency that provides food, clothing, case management and financial assistance to Martin County people in need. The agency is Martin County’s largest provider of food to the hungry, and serves as a safety net for thousands of families, working people and senior citizens who are struggling through hard times.
