A roaring good time raises over $100,000 for House of Hope’s health and nutrition initiatives

On Feb. 23, 2019, more than 140 guests attended a private fundraiser hosted by Dr. Daniel and Marlena Husted at their grand waterfront home overlooking the St. Lucie River. Dr. Daniel Husted, a prominent orthopaedic surgeon in Stuart, and his wife Marlena, appealed to their extensive connections within the medical community aiming to raise support and awareness for House of Hope’s rapidly growing health and nutrition initiatives.

The program focuses on improving the community’s health via nutrition education, cooking and gardening classes, along with enhanced access to a variety of fresh produce via the agency’s four Client Choice pantries and partnering agencies. In some low-income communities in Martin County, as many as 60 percent of residents suffer from obesity and related chronic illnesses.

Dr. Daniel and Marlena Husted stated “as a community we have the amazing opportunity to be fruitful and bless others in unimaginable ways. The impact on our community will have a lasting ripple effect that extends from person to person, town to town for many years to come.”

The evening featured a variety of Roaring 20s touches including a beautifully preserved antique car, premium cigars, gold dusted cocktails, and an ice sculptured vintage coupe. Underneath the canopy of glittering lights, vintage jazz-remixes of today’s popular music filled the private venue while bedazzled guests performed their best Lindy, Charleston and Fox Trot. Marlena’s daughter, Ava Camejo, age 11, beautifully serenaded the party with two solo vocal performances.

The Chef’s Table’s costumed and attentive staff kept the charcuterie, raw bar and tapas expertly presented throughout the evening. Gilded desserts carried the evening’s theme complete with the art deco adorned three-tiered cake custom designed by The Cake Lady of Food Network fame.

The exclusive evening was generously hosted by the Husted family including presenting sponsor, Play Money, Stuart’s newly opened pinball arcade. Additional sponsors included HBKS Wealth Advisors, Lorraine and Andrew Popky, Republic Spine, Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute, Eberst Accident Attorneys, South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Options Home Health, Active Health Center, Hoskins Turco Lloyd & Lloyd, MIS Consulting, The Law Offices of Anidjar & Levine, Atlantis Orthopaedics Steinger, Iscoe & Greene, Lesser Lesser Landy & Smith Attorneys at Law, Donaldson & Weston, and Lauri J.
