After the 2021 Surfside condo collapse, the Miami Foundation created a permanent Disaster Resilience Fund to quickly distribute aid before, during and after crises, eliminating delays caused by traditional grant processes. Inspired by that model, the Community Foundation Martin-St. Lucie is launching its own Local Disaster Relief Fund to support nonprofits like House of Hope with rapid-response resources during hurricane season. The new approach aims to strengthen preparedness, speed recovery efforts and better protect vulnerable residents as climate-related disasters become more frequent.
