Hope in Our Community: From the Desk of Our CEO

Good day, neighbors. So who among us has ever seen a Cuban sandwich that measures 400 feet long? The answer is none of us have, because it has never been done. House of Hope is thrilled to share with our community the opportunity to participate in a unique and exciting event appropriately named “Bite Into History.” On Saturday, September 12th, in partnership with our friends at Old Havana Cafe, we will break the record for the longest Cuban sandwich ever made. Our goal is to shatter the existing mark of 365 feet, and set the new standard at an amazing 400 feet long.  The best part is everyone is invited to witness history, experience Cuban culture, and help our neighbors in need.

When Chuchi Rivero, owner and chef at Old Havana Cafe, approached House of Hope with the idea of partnering to break the record, we were all in. Chuchi’s love of people and our community is evident in all that he does, and this is a great way to bring people together to help the mission of House of Hope, be exposed to Cuban culture, connect with some of our nonprofit partners, and enjoy an afternoon of family fun, all while making history. The community booths will have activities for children as well as information about their mission. We will have music, Salsa dancing, dominoes, face painting, food trucks selling refreshments, and of course, lots and lots of Cuban sandwiches for sale.

We are grateful to the Doris M. Carter Family Foundation, who will match every dollar raised for House of Hope up to $15,000. So every sponsorship, donation, or sandwich purchased is in effect doubled. Special thanks to Commissioner Ed Ciampi and the Martin County BOCC for their support. All of the proceeds from the event will go toward our mission to empower residents to overcome hunger and hardship through healthy food access, education, financial assistance, case management, and many other essential support services. We hope to see you there on Saturday, September 12th at L. Cpl. Justin Wilson Memorial Park in Palm City. The event will kick off at 11AM, and sandwich building starts at 12PM.
