Volunteering at House of Hope
Volunteers are the heart of House of Hope. They
allow HOH to continue to provide the community
with the assistance they need.
Volunteer opportunities abound in each of the
HOH locations, including the following
activities:
-
Food pantries: Sorting food and/or assisting
clients.
-
Resale stores: Sorting items and/or or
assisting customers.
-
Special events: Helping with an aspect of
one of our annual
events
-
Marketing: Helping to spread the word in the
community about HOH's work.
-
Case management: Interview and assess the
needs of House of Hope clients.
-
Design your own opportunity: Let us know
your strengths, interests and schedule and
see if there would be a fit!
Opportunities are available on weekdays and
Saturdays. Each volunteer prospect receives a
packet of information that includes an
application, a list of volunteer
responsibilities and even thrift store discount
coupons.
In 2008, House
of Hope's 124 volunteers logged an astounding
10,502 hours of service. Based on an estimated
dollar value of volunteer time of $20.25 per
hour, that means our volunteers
put in $212,665 worth of time in 2008.
The dollar value is
estimated by
The
Independent Sector, a leading coalition of
charities, foundations and corporate giving
programs. Each year, the group estimates the
dollar value of volunteer time as a way to
quantify the enormous service volunteers
provide.
House of Hope volunteer
hours are tracked by
Martin
Volunteers, a program of United Way of
Martin County. If you are an HOH volunteer and
don’t think you are registered with Martin
Volunteers, contact Helena Valagao at (772)
